Huddersfield Giants have announced that one of their former halfbacks will re-join the club on loan for the remainder of the season, due to a number of injuries in the six and seven positions.<\/p>\n

Starting halves Tui Lolohea and Adam Clune have both suffered injuries that will keep them out for the rest of the year, whilst loanee Matt Frawley<\/a> is also sidelined due to a knock he picked up in the defeat to St Helens<\/a> last weekend.<\/p>\n

That has resulted in the Giants\u00a0 agreeing a deal with Wakefield Trinity to bring Oliver Russell back to the club, as he looks to bring in an experienced half-back for the final five games of the year.<\/p>\n

Russell is a very familiar face at the Giants. making his debut in 2018 and playing over 100 matches for the claret and gold.<\/p>\n

He moved to Wakefield for 2025, but a hand injury has kept him out for the majority of the campaign. With the current form of Mason Lino, the 26-year-old is finding game time hard to get and he recently went on loan to Salford Red Devils<\/a> in a bid to build match fitness.<\/p>\n

He will now see out the season at his former club, as they look to finish the season strong.<\/p>\n

Russell spoke to the Giants\u2019 club website<\/a> on his signing, and said: \u201cI\u2019m really excited to be back and seeing some familiar faces. It\u2019s what I need for me, to be finishing the season playing rugby, so it\u2019s best for both clubs too.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the transfer deadline just one week away, Andy Kelly, Huddersfield\u2019s director of rugby, said he was pleased to get the move over the line.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleased that Olly Russell has returned to the club and that the loan has been facilitated so quickly,\u201d he said. \u201cI want to give credit to Ken Davy for supporting the move and allowing us to bring a quality player to strengthen the team with the intention of\u00a0 finishing the season as positively as we possibly can.\u201d<\/p>\n
