The Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a, the third and final Grand Tour of 2025, is about to start, with Jonas Vingegaard<\/a> as the top favorite.<\/a> This will be followed by the World Championships in road cycling, but contrary to earlier reports, Vingegaard will not be going to Rwanda. He confirmed this on Wednesday at his press conference ahead of the Vuelta, after which the Danish national coach explained the decision in more detail.<\/p>\n

The Dane initially seemed set to make his debut at the World Championships in Africa, but has now decided not to attend. \u201cWe have reviewed our plans. You need to be fresh to compete in the World Championships, and that demands a lot from a rider. I don’t know how I will feel after the Vuelta, so I have decided not to go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vingegaard is not ending his season after the Vuelta. \u201cI’m going to go for the European Championships, which fits better into the schedule.\u201d This year’s European Championships will be held in France, in the Ard\u00e8che, on Sunday, October 5, one week after the World Championships. The Tour of Lombardy could also be an option, but when asked, Vingegaard said he had not yet made a decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cI definitely think Jonas would rather be world champion than European champion,\u201d M\u00f8rk\u00f8v admits. \u201cBut this year, there are both logistical and time-related challenges about the World Championships, so it makes more sense to have him in the race he believes in most. And that’s the European Championships.\u201d<\/p>\n
