So this is a weird one. Five months after Showtime announced that \u201cDexter: Original Sin\u201d had been renewed for a second season, the spinoff prequel series has now been cancelled after just one season. Variety reports this afternoon<\/a>, \u201cVariety\u00a0has learned from sources that\u00a0Paramount has opted not to move forward with another season of the prequel series.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA\u00a0Season 2 renewal announcement went out in April,\u201d the site\u2019s exclusive report goes on to explain, \u201cbut sources say the series has in fact been on hiatus and no plans to shoot a second season had moved forward and no production dates were scheduled.\u201d<\/p>\n

Showtime went all in on \u201cDexter\u201d with \u201cOriginal Sin\u201d and sequel series \u201cDexter: Resurrection<\/a>,\u201d the latter of which seemingly will be returning for a second season. According to Variety, \u201cParamount is imminently planning to open a writers room for a potential Season 2.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDexter: Original Sin\u201d was set in 1991 Miami and revolved around Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he goes from student to avenging serial killer. With guidance from his father, Harry (Christian Slater), the killer-in-training adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people without being discovered by law enforcement at the same time as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Michael C. Hall returned as the inner voice of Dexter.<\/p>\n

The pivot here seems to be to focus on Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan in the present day going forward, streamlining the \u201cDexter\u201d Universe down to just one series rather than two.<\/p>\n
