{"id":88513,"date":"2025-08-24T00:44:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T00:44:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/88513\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T00:44:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T00:44:06","slug":"sugar-ray-leonard-knows-he-really-lost-one-major-fight-as-far-as-im-concerned-he-shouldve-won","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/88513\/","title":{"rendered":"Sugar Ray Leonard Knows He Really Lost One Major Fight: &#8220;As Far As I&#8217;m Concerned He Should&#8217;ve Won&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When reflecting on his storied career, the legendary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/sugar-ray-leonard\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sugar Ray Leonard<\/a> has admitted that he feels he should have lost one fight on the cards.<\/p>\n<p>Leonard began life as a professional back in 1977, one year after he walked away from the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada with a Super Lightweight Gold Medal.<\/p>\n<p>He would go on to capture world titles in five weight classes throughout the course of his 20-year tenure, ranging from welterweight up to light-heavyweight.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/danrafael.substack.com\/p\/ranking-all-nine-of-the-fights-in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Leonard would also become one of the iconic \u2018Four Kings\u2019<\/a>, alongside rivals Roberto Duran, \u2018Marvelous\u2019 Marvin Hagler and Thomas \u2018Hitman\u2019 Hearns, going on to face all of these legendary fighters on at least one occasion each and becoming the only man out of the group to score a win over each.<\/p>\n<p>However, in an interview with Harvard Business Review, Leonard was asked whether or not he regretted his many comebacks during his career. In his answer, he revealed that he considers his draw with Hearns \u2013 after beating him by TKO int their first meeting \u2013 a defeat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret the ones I lost: H\u00e9ctor Camacho, Terry Norris, the second fight with Tommy Hearns (which I won on [one] scorecard, but which he really won as far as I\u2019m concerned). Looking back, I do have regrets, but I wouldn\u2019t be the person I am today if I hadn\u2019t gone through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His rematch with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.secondsout.com\/topic\/thomas-hearns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hearns<\/a> was declared a split decision draw, with one judge scoring the bout even, one judge scoring it in favour of Leonard and the other scoring it in favour of Hearns, who scored two knockdowns over the course of the 12 rounds.<\/p>\n<p>It has been argued by many that Hearns did enough to be declared the winner on the night but this wasn\u2019t to be.
