\n\tAs Americana<\/a> premieres amid a turbulent time for star Sydney Sweeney<\/a>, her co-star Halsey<\/a> is defending writer\/director Tony Tost<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe 3x Grammy nominee recently expressed her support for the \u201chardworking director and his hardworking crew\u201d as the film faces the apparent blowback from Sweeney\u2019s American Eagle denim ad<\/a>, which caused controversy over its \u201cgreat jeans\u201d wordplay.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI do agree that our words are important in this climate,\u201d she wrote Thursday on her Instagram Story. \u201cI don\u2019t, however, think that it\u2019s fair for the news cycle to predatorily rip a hardworking director and his hardworking crew for their film that is completely separate-from and unrelated-to a (pretty dumb) advertising take.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHalsey added, \u201cIf it\u2019s not clear who the actual people I\u2019m standing up for are, I\u2019m sorry look closer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFollowing its SXSW<\/a> 2023 premiere, Lionsgate<\/a> debuted Americana last weekend in 1,100 theaters under its arthouse Premiere Releasing label, for a $500K opening, which is on par for the distributor\u2019s release strategy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a since-deleted post shared by Daily Mail<\/a>, Halsey praised Tost for making \u201can exceptional film,\u201d adding: \u201cBecause his work and his vision are greater than the 24 hr gossip tabloid denim bulls***.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe outlet quoted another deleted post from Halsey\u2019s X account. \u201cI\u2019m not upset the film\u2019s release is being hurt by the timing. I am upset that bunch of non celebrity people involved in this film are being bullied by the media,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI have said everything I am permitted to say about my feelings on the ad. And if you\u2019re a fan of mine and think I \u2018support eugenics\u2019 then idk what to say idk why you\u2019re a fan then tbh\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
