Darwin Nunez continued his impressive start to life in Saudi Arabia on Saturday night when he scored in Al-Hilal’s final pre-season match. The Uruguayan, who left Anfield<\/a> to join the Saudi Pro League outfit earlier this month in a deal worth a potential \u00a354m, found the back of the net in a 4-0 thrashing of Al-Fayha.<\/p>\n

Since joining Al-Hilal, Nunez has found the net in three consecutive pre-season outings for Simone Inzaghi’s side. Posting on Instagram after the game on Saturday night, the 26-year-old wrote: “Focus on what’s ahead.”<\/p>\n

When Nunez left Liverpool<\/a> to switch to the Saudi Pro League two weeks ago, it brought the curtain down on his underwhelming career as a Liverpool player.<\/p>\n

The striker moved to Anfield from Benfica for a then-potential club-record deal, worth \u00a385m, in June 2022.<\/p>\n

But during his time on Merseyside, he struggled for consistency and managed just 20 Premier League<\/a> goals across his first two seasons, before his final campaign saw him used sparingly by Arne Slot.<\/p>\n

However, Nunez did help Liverpool win the Community Shield, Carabao Cup and Premier League before leaving.<\/p>\n

Writing on Instagram when his switch to Al-Hilal was confirmed, Nunez said: “Thank you, Liverpool. Three years on, it’s time to say goodbye.<\/p>\n

“I’ll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.<\/p>\n

“I leave with a full heart – thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back – through the highs and through the lows.<\/p>\n

“Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I’ll miss you more than words can say.<\/p>\n

“To all the staff and my teammates, thank you, and all the very best for the future. YNWA.”<\/p>\n
