Tottenham<\/a> have been urged to hijack a Chelsea<\/a> transfer deal after missing out on Eberechi Eze<\/a> to Arsenal<\/a>.<\/p>\n Spurs were closing in on a significant deal for England star Eze before their north London rivals Arsenal swooped in and agreed a deal with Crystal Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n New Tottenham boss Thomas Frank targeted Eze after losing both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski to injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n Eze had agreed personal terms with Spurs but then approved a move to Arsenal after the Gunners agreed a \u00a368m deal with Palace<\/a>.<\/p>\n He became Mikel Arteta\u2019s seventh summer signing and will bolster an Arsenal squad that have aspirations of winning the Premier League this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tYour ultimate guide to the football season\t\t\t<\/p>\n Metro’s weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday \u2013 sign up<\/a>, it’s an open goal.<\/p>\n It is a major blow to Tottenham, who have enjoyed a superb start to the new season under Frank<\/a>, and will likely see the north London club pursue another attacking player before the transfer window shuts.<\/p>\n Spurs have expressed interest in signing Savinho from Manchester City<\/a> and the Brazil international is believed to be keen on the move.<\/p>\n \t\t But Sir Alex Ferguson\u2019s former Manchester United assistant Rene Meulensteen believes Tottenham should also consider hijacking Chelsea\u2019s deal for Xavi Simons.<\/p>\n Chelsea have been working on a deal for the Netherlands international for weeks but are yet to agree terms with RB Leipzig<\/a>, who are holding out for an offer of \u00a360m.<\/p>\n Discussing Simons\u2019 options in the Premier League, Meulensteen told CoinPoker<\/a>: \u2018It\u2019s interesting to see, but he has to be in one of those top teams to succeed in the Premier League.<\/p>\n \u2018He\u2019s mobile, he\u2019s really a player that drifts between the lines, behind the pockets, he can be the man.<\/p>\n \t\t \u2018But where he ends up, if he ends up in the Premier League, is yet to be seen.<\/p>\n \u2018Tottenham? That could be a really good option. With James Maddison out, that could be a really good option.<\/p>\n \u2018Manchester United? He is somebody that plays in the position that Matheus Cunha or Mason Mount will be playing in. Bryan Mbeumo is probably going to play in that position. Bruno Fernandes plays in that position.<\/p>\n \u2018At Liverpool, no, because they brought Florian Wirtz in. Arsenal have got their player in that position with Martin Odegaard.\u2019<\/p>\n Tottenham appear to be going in the right direction under Frank, beating Burnley on the opening day before stunning Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n But they have missed out on one of the most exciting players in the Premier League in Eze in a situation Jamie Redknapp described as a \u2018nightmare\u2019 for Spurs owner Daniel Levy.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s a nightmare situation for them,\u2019 he told Sky Sports<\/a>. \u2018It\u2019s unfortunately typical of what happens at\u00a0Tottenham\u00a0with Daniel Levy.<\/p>\n \u2018It was an opportunity to get someone across the line, they had two weeks \u2013 probably haggling, trying to mess around with the deal instead of just paying the money, saying \u2018this is the exit clause, this is what you\u2019ve got to pay, this is what\u00a0Eberechi Eze\u00a0wants\u2019. We don\u2019t want them here and I\u2019m sure the fans feel the same.<\/p>\n \u2018We are in the market and we will look to strengthen the team. We have a good squad and good players [but] we need to do everything we can to be as competitive as possible.<\/p>\n \u2018I am confident we will sign a player before the end of the window. Every club wants to sign players as early as possible, but it\u2019s not that easy.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018This is one of those players that is going to make such a difference. You\u2019ve not got\u00a0James Maddison,\u00a0Dejan Kulusevski\u00a0looks like he\u2019s out for a while. They\u2019ve slept and Arsenal have come in.<\/p>\n \u2018It\u2019s a great move for\u00a0Arsenal. I\u2019m so disappointed because I thought he\u2019d have been a magnificent No. 10 for Tottenham. He\u2019d have been perfect for them.<\/p>\n \u2018But it\u2019s happened before, it happened with\u00a0Morgan Gibbs-White\u00a0earlier in the season and we\u2019ve seen it again. Over-negotiating.
