Following consecutive 10-round decision defeats by James Flint<\/a> last year, 2024 Hall of Fame inductee Ricky Hatton announced his son Campbell<\/a> has decided to retire from the sport. <\/p>\n

The admission came after overseeing a 10-round decision win for one of his current fighter stable in 15-1 junior lightweight hopeful Ibrahim Nadim on Saturday, outpointing Kurt Jackson at the DIY Kitchens Stadium in Wakefield, Yorkshire. <\/p>\n

Afterwards, he spoke to BoxingNow about a variety of topics and shared this update on Campbell’s future.<\/p>\n

“Campbell won’t be fighting again. He didn’t have a lot of amateur experience, gave it a go in the amateurs and then went pro, fought for the Area title and got beat, I thought he lost to be fair, then he fought the same lad straight away after, thought he won the second one but didn’t get the decision.<\/p>\n

“They were both very close fights, he lost a little bit of his mojo and a few things went wrong [outside the ring], sadly lost one of his best friends in Justin who passed away at 27, went through a bit of a [tough] time, his heart wasn’t in it. <\/p>\n

“I told him listen son, you should be very proud of yourself. You’ve given it a go but if you’ve lost your mojo, you need to get out of this game. You can play any other sport but you can’t play boxing. I advised him and now he’s doing solar panels, gone into another job, he’s a grafter and worked hard but it just wasn’t for Campbell.” <\/p>\n

After his career-first defeat in March 2024, Hatton split from trainer and uncle Matthew Hatton before linking up with Ben Davison and Barry Smith at their gym in Harlow, Essex.<\/p>\n

That switch, ever popular around British boxing circles, did not produce a different result in the rematch seven months later and The Ring’s Dec Taylor reported on<\/a> Campbell opting to return home once more in March as questions surrounded his promotional future with Matchroom patiently building his name and bolstering experience on big cards before then.<\/p>\n

At the time, it was said that Team Hatton were hopeful for a summer return for the junior welterweight and assessing their options but ‘Hurricane’ would soon be quietly dealing with personal tragedy, which saw his desire for the sport understandably wane in the meantime.<\/p>\n

Having fallen short when challenging for the same Central Area title his father held 24 years earlier, Hatton felt there was no other option than to rematch Doncaster’s Flint. <\/p>\n

Flint has since signed a deal with GBM Sports and boxed admirably despite suffering a 10-round defeat by Malta’s Haithem Laamouz for the vacant IBO Continental title on May 20. <\/p>\n
