{"id":90875,"date":"2025-08-25T04:19:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T04:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/90875\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T04:19:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T04:19:09","slug":"alan-shearer-names-the-three-magnificent-tottenham-players-who-dominated-man-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/90875\/","title":{"rendered":"Alan Shearer names the three &#8216;magnificent&#8217; Tottenham players who &#8216;dominated&#8217; Man City"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Tottenham Hotspur made it two wins from two in the Premier League with an impressive display against Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/topic\/thomas-frank\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thomas Frank\u2019s<\/a> team stunned Manchester City as they won 2-0, with goals from Brennan Johnson and Joao Palhinha. <\/p>\n<p>The North London club had a frustrating week with <a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/how-people-inside-tottenham-are-actually-feeling-after-arsenal-snatch-eberechi-eze-away\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Eberechi Eze picking Arsenal<\/a> over them, but a big three points at the Etihad Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>There were many impressive performances against City, but three players in particular stood out for <a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/topic\/alan-shearer\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alan Shearer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"655\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/GettyImages-2231636895-1024x655.jpg\" alt=\"Joao Palhinha celebrates during Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League\" class=\"wp-image-979031\" \/>Photo by Clive Mason\/Getty ImagesJoao Palhinha, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur\u2019s midfield masterclass vs Man City <\/p>\n<p>Shearer has hailed the performances of Palhinha, Pape Matar Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur against Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>The former Premier League striker was particularly impressed by Palhinha and has tipped him to be a top signing for <a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/topic\/tottenham-hotspur\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Palhinha signed on loan from Bayern Munich earlier this summer with an option to buy for around \u00a327 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/thomas-frank-says-tottenham-have-found-him-a-top-player-who-can-be-signed-for-just-27m\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frank was also impressed by Palhinha\u2019s display<\/a> against the former Premier League champions as the Portuguese international continues to impress in N17.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the match, Shearer highlighted how aggressive Spurs\u2019 midfield trio were against Pep Guardiola\u2019s side.<\/p>\n<p>StatSarrBentancurPalhinhaDuels won328Possession won562Tackles won212Shots on target101Goals001Sarr, Bentancur and Palhinha\u2019s stats vs Man City (BBC Match of the Day)<\/p>\n<p>Shearer told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episode\/m002hptv\/match-of-the-day-202526-23082025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">BBC Match of the Day<\/a>: \u201cIt was a midfield masterclass from those three, Sarr, Bentancur and Palhinha. They pressed, they were aggressive and they invited the short pass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf they didn\u2019t win the first tackle, they won the second tackle \u2013 that was a constant all afternoon from those three.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTackles, blocks, look at this block from Palhinha \u2013 he could be a fantastic signing for Tottenham Hotspur, so many last ditch tackles, the timing of them were absolutely perfect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose numbers there tell you they absolutely dominated that midfield battle today, all three were magnificent, it was great to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Micah Richards so impressed by Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero vs Man City<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Micah Richards was so impressed by Spurs\u2019 centre back pairing of <a href=\"https:\/\/tbrfootball.com\/topic\/micky-van-de-ven\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Micky van de Ven<\/a> and Cristian Romero against City.<\/p>\n<p>The duo had to dig deep at the Etihad Stadium, but the pair made some vital tackles and blocks to ensure they came away with the clean sheet.<\/p>\n<p>Richards added on BBC Match of the Day: \u201cI think Van de Ven was injured a lot last season, Romero was excellent.
