Asia markets climbed Monday, led by China and Hong Kong stocks, after Federal Reserve<\/a>\u00a0Chair Jerome Powell signaled that the central bank\u00a0could begin\u00a0easing monetary policy<\/a>\u00a0next month in his widely anticipated annual speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.<\/p>\n Hong Kong’s\u00a0Hang Seng Index<\/a>\u00a0surged 2.11% to come within range of a four-year high. Gains were led by Chinese property developer\u00a0\u00a0which rose 8.21%,\u00a0\u00a0which jumped 6.01% and\u00a0\u00a0which gained 5.94%.<\/p>\n The tech sector was among the key contributors to the HSI’s gains. The Hang Seng Tech index rose 3.11%, with strong moves seen in Nio<\/a>, which gained 14.73%<\/a> and semiconductor and electronics manufacturer ASMPT<\/a>, which added 6.74%.<\/p>\n Mainland China’s\u00a0CSI 300<\/a>\u00a0extended its gains for the fourth consecutive session, climbing 1.39% and reaching a 37-month high earlier in the day.<\/p>\n “A popular view is that maturing time deposits could shift into equities and sustain the momentum, given deposit rates have declined notably,” analysts at Goldman Sachs wrote in a Sunday note. “Some also see potential inflows if Fed rate cuts trigger capital rotation from the US to China, and note bond-to-equity rotation as a key driver of recent equity market gains.”<\/p>\n Chinese property stocks rallied with gains led by China Vanke<\/a>, which jumped 15.28% after Shanghai eased home buying restrictions for eligible families, even as its net loss widened to 12 billion yuan ($1.67 billion) for the six months ended June, from 9.9 billion yuan the year before. Strong gains were also seen in Longfor Group<\/a>,\u00a0which rose 7.84% and\u00a0New World Development<\/a>,\u00a0which advanced 6.96%.<\/p>\n Strong gains were also seen in Taiwan’s Taiex index, which advanced 2.47%.<\/p>\n Over in South Korea, the Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index increased by 1.14%, while the small-cap Kosdaq advanced 1.92%.<\/p>\n In Japan, the\u00a0Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0benchmark rose 0.27%, while the broader Topix index ticked up 0.1%.<\/p>\n Australia’s\u00a0S&P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0benchmark added 0.22%, after crossing the 9,000 threshold earlier in the session.<\/p>\n Over in India, the benchmark\u00a0Nifty 50<\/a>\u00a0added 0.35%, while the BSE Sensex index moved up 0.23%.<\/p>\n Elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific, Singapore’s inflation came in at 0.6% in July<\/a>, lower than the 0.7% forecast by economists polled by Reuters and 0.8% seen in June.<\/p>\n U.S. equity futures<\/a> traded close to the flatline as investors await artificial intelligence darling Nvidia<\/a>‘s earnings.<\/p>\n Last Friday<\/a>,\u00a0the blue-chip\u00a0Dow<\/a>\u00a0soared 846.24 points, or 1.89%, to a record level of 45,631.74.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the broad market\u00a0S&P 500<\/a>\u00a0rose 1.52% to 6,466.91, while its session high was just three points shy of its record.
