In a new social media post, the Mad Men star shows off her washboard abs in a bathing suit on a hot day. \u201cOnly cause it\u2019s a heat wave,\u201d she captioned the Instagram post. \u201cSmitten,\u201d commented a follower. \u201cThank you,\u201d added another. How does the 47-year-old approach health and wellness? Here are her top diet and fitness tips<\/p>\n<p>January recommends Pilates for elongating the body. \u201cTwo or three years ago I started doing barre classes, and after that I took regular private Pilates lessons. Then a friend told me about Lagree Pilates,\u201d she told <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.shape.com\/celebrities\/interviews\/january-jones-interview\">Shape<\/a> in February 2020. \u201cI\u2019ve been doing it two to four times a week for the past year now, and I\u2019ve gained weight because I\u2019ve put on muscle. I\u2019ve gone up a size in clothes, but I feel like I look better naked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She is also an advocate of yoga, training with <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/kirschenyoga\/\">Kirschen<\/a>, a private yoga instructor based in Los Angeles. Why should you follow in her footsteps, per <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/staying-healthy\/yoga-benefits-beyond-the-mat\">Harvard Health<\/a>? \u201cResearchers found that people who practiced yoga for at least 30 minutes once a week for at least four years, gained less weight during middle adulthood,\u201d they said. \u201cPeople who were overweight actually lost weight. Overall, those who practiced yoga had lower body mass indexes (BMIs) compared with those who did not practice yoga. Researchers attributed this to mindfulness. Mindful eating can lead to a more positive relationship with food and eating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>January also recommends group fitness classes because \u201cmusic is good\u201d and the routine changes, so \u201cit doesn\u2019t get boring,\u201d she told Shape. \u201cI like having women on both sides of me to push me. When I did the private Pilates lessons a couple of years ago, I just saw myself getting lazy with it because there wasn\u2019t that drive for competition. For me, that\u2019s what\u2019s motivating. If there\u2019s someone strong next to me, I definitely want to up my game. I find myself looking forward to it more than I\u2019ve ever looked forward to a workout.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>January recommends a balanced diet. \u201cI don\u2019t deprive myself of anything. If I want something\u2014steak, a bagel\u2014I\u2019ll eat it. There\u2019s no diet or strict set of rules,\u201d she told Shape. \u201cI don\u2019t get hungry until around 10 a.m., but since I usually do Lagree at 9:30, I\u2019ll make myself eat a banana beforehand so I don\u2019t get too shaky. Then I have a MacroBar afterward and eat lunch around 11:30\u2014usually salad, soup, or a sandwich,\u201d she revealed. She also loves to cook and might make salmon with French fries or pasta for herself and her son, Xander. \u201cWe try to have lots of green veggies,\u201d she added. One way she gets her greens in? \u201cLast winter, I started drinking celery juice every day, and I\u2019ve seen amazing results in my energy, digestion, and skin and how I sleep. I have that in the morning, then I take my vitamins and drink coffee.\u201d She also eats organic. \u201cNo antibiotics or hormones in meats is really important to me, and so is eating sustainable fish. I don\u2019t want to be that annoying person in the restaurant who\u2019s like, \u2018Where\u2019s this fish from?\u2019 But I do it anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>January also suggests trying Cardio Barre, a combination of traditional barre moves with non-stop movements. \u201cI feel better. I feel stronger. It\u2019s muscle, obviously.
