{"id":91784,"date":"2025-08-25T14:25:09","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T14:25:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/91784\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T14:25:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T14:25:09","slug":"england-rwc-winner-favourite-to-land-job-rumoured-for-warren-gatland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/91784\/","title":{"rendered":"England RWC winner favourite to land job rumoured for Warren Gatland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Graham Rowntree has emerged as the shock favourite to become the new head coach of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/japan\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japan<\/a> Rugby League One outfit Urayasu D-Rocks.<\/p>\n<p>Former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/wales\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wales<\/a> boss Warren Gatland had been linked with the role, but Rowntree, who has been looking for another gig since leaving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/munster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Munster<\/a> last October, is now the frontrunner for the job.<\/p>\n<p>The former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/england\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">England<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/lions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lions<\/a> loosehead was an early name linked with a return to his former club, Leicester Tigers, before they appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/geoff-parling\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Geoff Parling<\/a>, and is set to take over at D-Rocks from former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/teams\/scotland\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scotland<\/a> captain Greig Laidlaw.<\/p>\n<p>Laidlaw took over in the hot seat when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/players\/johan-ackermann\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Johan Ackermann<\/a> stepped aside and assumed an advisory role after guiding D-Rocks to promotion in 2024, before taking on a job with the Junior Springboks.<\/p>\n<p>Gatland, who left Wales during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rugbypass.com\/six-nations\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Six Nations<\/a> earlier this year, took up an advisory role with the Uruguayan side Penarol, helping them to win the Super Rugby Americas title in June.<\/p>\n<p>The New Zealander, who masterminded three Grand Slam wins during his time in Wales and worked as a television pundit during the Lions tour in Australia, was heavily linked with the job in Urayasu City, Chiba.<\/p>\n<p>But despite media reports claiming that an announcement was imminent three weeks ago, nothing has happened.
