{"id":92310,"date":"2025-08-25T19:35:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T19:35:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/92310\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T19:35:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T19:35:07","slug":"chavez-jr-out-of-prison-awaits-trial-on-alleged-cartel-ties","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/92310\/","title":{"rendered":"Chavez Jr out of prison, awaits trial on alleged cartel ties"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/fighters\/julio-cesar-chavez-jr-2146613\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Julio Cesar Chavez Jr<\/a> was released from a northern Mexican prison on Sunday, and a Hermosillo judge said Chavez will stand trial over alleged cartel ties and arms trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press reported Sunday, per Chavez\u2019s lawyer Ruben Fernando Benitez Alvarez, that the Mexican court &#8220;imposed additional measures and granted three months of further investigation into the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Alvarez told the AP that the claims against the 39-year-old Chavez are \u201cspeculation\u201d and \u201curban legends,\u201d but if convicted, Chavez could face a four-to-eight-year prison sentence.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The AP also reported that Chavez doesn\u2019t have to remain in custody while awaiting trial but is prohibited from leaving Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Chavez was deported from the United States to Mexico on Aug. 19 <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/chavez-attorney\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">following his July 2 arrest by federal agents<\/a> outside his Los Angeles home for overstaying his visa and lying on a green card application. The incident occurred four days after <a class=\"underline hover:text-redColor\" href=\"https:\/\/ringmagazine.com\/en\/news\/paul-chavez-result\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chavez fought Jake Paul<\/a> to a 10-round unanimous decision loss in Anaheim, California. <\/p>\n<p>At the time of his arrest, the United States Department of Homeland Security stated that Chavez had an active arrest warrant in Mexico since 2023 for his \u201cinvolvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunition, and explosives\u201d and that he was \u201cbelieved to be an affiliate of the Sinaloa Cartel.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Manouk Akopyan is The Ring\u2019s lead writer.
