THE self-employed will be urged to start saving for retirement amid the pension time bomb.<\/p>\n

Ministers are launching a commission to look at ways to help the self-employed build their pension pots<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall is concerned self-employed Brits aren’t saving enough<\/p>\n

Figures shared exclusively with the Sun on Sunday<\/a> show that while nearly half were saving towards a pension in the late Nineties, fewer than 20 per cent are doing so today.<\/p>\n

It means over three million self-employed workers are not saving for their retirement.<\/p>\n

Pensions<\/a> Secretary Liz Kendall<\/a> said: \u201cI\u2019m concerned that too many people \u2013 including millions of hard-working self-employed Brits \u2013 aren\u2019t saving enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cI won\u2019t sit by and let their futures hang in the balance. <\/p>\n

“We\u2019re going to tackle the looming retirement crisis and give working people the retirement they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The panel will report back to the Government in 2027.<\/p>\n

The Government is currently planning some of the biggest pension reforms in decades.<\/p>\n

It earlier announced plans to\u00a0move billions of pounds of pension savings into larger “megafunds”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The scheme is aimed at\u00a0boosting savers’ retirement pots<\/a>\u00a0as well as investment in the UK.<\/p>\n
