The 20-year-old British rider had a fantastic week, with his team playing him as their trump card.On day two, when the riders were presented with the first stage, Brennan immediately made his mark. The sprint specialist from Darlington finished ahead of Jonathan Milan (Lidl-Trek) in Herford to take the victory, followed by an eighth and seventh place on days two and three, respectively. On the final day in Magdeburg, it was another success, as the sprinter gave his team something to cheer about for the second time this week.“The whole team played a big role in this victory,” Brennan explained on the team’s website. “The guys kept me out of trouble all day and did a great job, especially in the final. Matisse Van Kerckhove is only 18 years old, but what he showed in the final today was impressive,” the Englishman praised his even younger teammate.

In the final, Niklas Behrens and Wout van Aert put Brennan in a perfect position. “Niklas Behrens and Wout then took over and brought me comfortably to the finish line. I am delighted that I was able to finish it off. It has been a successful day and week for us.”

Brennan managed to win again on the final day of the Deutschland Tour

“When everyone is all-in, a certain cohesion is created,” Brennan praised his team Visma | Lease a Bike.

What will stay with the young Englishman most from the five days of the Deutschland Tour was the unity within the team. “We came here with the goal of winning a stage and ended up winning two. We were all super motivated and when everyone is all-in, a certain cohesion is created. It’s great to be able to work with such a group,” he says gratefully.

That makes it eleven victories, and Brennan would love to add to that tally in the fall. “It’s going really well so far. I’ve been able to develop as a rider again this week and it’s nice to be surrounded by experienced guys like Steven Kruijswijk and Wout. They teach us younger riders a lot. I hope to continue this trend in the Tour of Britain,” he says, already looking ahead to his home race, which is scheduled for early September.

It may be his debut year at the highest level, but that didn’t stop Matthew Brennan from claiming…

[37
4985,101,56,54,55
0":"post-93723","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cycling","8":"tag-cycling","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
