BBC Radio Humberside<\/a>, Laylah said she first started boxing when she joined her brother at the age of eight, who is five years older and was “in the gym all the time”.<\/p>\n“I came with him to the training sessions and when I tried it I loved it,” she said.<\/p>\n
She said her goal would be to win a gold medal at the Olympics and that she “just wants to be the best person I can and accomplish the most I can”.<\/p>\n
Her determination comes from her family, friends and her team, and the urge to make them and herself proud, she added.<\/p>\n
Tommy Coyle, a former boxer turned entrepreneur who became Commonwealth lightweight champion in 2018, runs the academy. He is also Laylah’s mentor.<\/p>\n
He said: “This girl’s got it all. She’s going to be in the hot seat a hell of a lot in her young life.<\/p>\n
“She’s dedicated and doesn’t listen to the noise. I’m excited to watch her grow.”<\/p>\n
Mr Coyle said Laylah “lives and breathes the sport”.<\/p>\n
