Rory McIlroy reminisced on his Masters victory ahead of the Tour Championship.<\/p>\n

The 2025 champion admitted he became emotional as he returned to Georgia for last weekend’s event.<\/p>\n

It came just four months after he clinched the green jacket at Augusta National.<\/p>\n

McIlroy’s play-off win over Justin Rose<\/a> also saw the Northern Irishman complete the career Grand Slam.<\/p>\n

He returned to the state last week for the FedEx Cup finale at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

It was the first PGA Tour<\/a> event held in Georgia since this year’s Masters.<\/p>\n

McIlroy<\/a> went on to finished tied-23rd, ending his weekend 12 shots adrift of friend and winner Tommy Fleetwood<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following his final round, the 36-year-old was asked about whether he had thought about the Masters as he returned to Georgia.<\/p>\n

He told reporters: “I actually did a couple of things for Augusta National this week.<\/p>\n

“I didn’t go there but there’s a couple of things I had to do. I had the green jacket on for a few hours on Wednesday doing something.<\/p>\n

“It was nice to reminisce. They made me cry again.”<\/p>\n

McIlroy had broken down in tears after sinking his winning putt against Rose back in April.<\/p>\n

His victory ended an 11-year wait for the career Grand Slam and a fifth major title after several heartbreaking misses.<\/p>\n

Prior to his previous major win at the 2014 PGA Championship, McIlroy had earlier let a lead slip at the Masters three years prior.<\/p>\n

He later finished second behind Scottie Scheffler in 2022, a year which saw him land in the top ten at all four majors.<\/p>\n

When is McIlroy next playing?<\/p>\n

McIlroy will now turn his attention to next month’s Ryder Cup<\/a> at Bethpage Black in New York.<\/p>\n

The world no.2 is one of six automatic picks<\/a> on Team Europe for captain Luke Donald.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the event, though, McIlroy will appear on the DP World Tour next week.<\/p>\n

He is in the field for the Irish Open at Royal County Down from September 4 to 7.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the Tour Championship and what is to come in the weeks ahead, he added: “The season’s not over for me, I’ve still got a lot of golf coming up, so I refuse to call this the end of the season.<\/p>\n

“This week I hit it better. The things that I wanted to improve on this week I did.<\/p>\n

“Off the tee was much better, I’m probably leading the strokes gained off the tee, but I just couldn’t get the speeds of the greens all week and I struggled to see lines and to feel the speed.<\/p>\n

“That was really the story of the week. My putting was so good last week at Caves and then my off the tee play wasn’t good and it sort of just inverted.<\/p>\n

“But I definitely improved from tee to green this week, I just couldn’t get a putt to drop really. My game feels close, it certainly isn’t far away.”<\/p>\n

McIlroy will feature at the 45th Ryder Cup<\/a> between September 26 and 28.<\/p>\n
