Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has provided an injury update on Micky McIlorum whilst also discussing the prospect the veteran hooker plays on in 2026.<\/p>\n

McIlorum signed from Catalans Dragons ahead of the 2025 season on a one-year deal, meaning he is out of contract at the end of this season and Peters has previously spoken about what a shame it would be for a player of McIlorum\u2019s status to end his career on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

When initially confirming the veteran\u2019s ankle fracture<\/a>, Peters said: \u201cHe doesn\u2019t deserve to end that way. It would be cruel if that happened.\u201d<\/p>\n

Offering an update to the press today, Peters confirmed that McIlorum will not have surgery and that Hull KR are \u201chopeful\u201d of getting him back in time for the play-offs.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen if they will have any success in that and having previously noted what a shame it would be for McIlorum\u2019s career to end in such fashion, Peters was asked if he felt the veteran was \u2018considering whether to play next year\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, he may play. Micky being Micky, he\u2019ll go to 50, so you never say never,\u201d Peters responded.<\/p>\n

Hull KR doing \u2018everything we can\u2019 to get McIlorum back for play-offs<\/p>\n

Expanding further on that, Peters explained that he didn\u2019t want to commit one way or another on a decision that ultimately isn\u2019t his to make.<\/p>\n

The Hull KR boss added: \u201cI don\u2019t want to say, yes, he\u2019s going to play or he\u2019s not, but it wouldn\u2019t surprise me if he does.<\/p>\n

\u201c(As it stands) he\u2019ll be heading back (to France), and he\u2019s been everything that we signed him for in terms of his experience and his leadership and what he brings around the place.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe only plays smaller minutes to what he\u2019s used to, but he certainly adds to what we\u2019re about.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for the actual injury, Peters did confirm that McIlorum won\u2019t have surgery and that the veterans chances of returning this season will be revisited further down the line.<\/p>\n

The Robins boss explained: \u201cWe\u2019re not going to go down the surgery route. We\u2019re going to be hopeful that we can get him right but we won\u2019t know until a few more weeks at least. It\u2019ll be one of those that we need to look at in a few weeks\u2019 time. We definitely can\u2019t make a decision now.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe certainly don\u2019t want Micky\u2019s career ending that way so we\u2019re all doing everything we can, the medical team and Micky himself, in terms of getting back, for finals, hopefully.\u201d<\/p>\n

With McIlorum out for the foreseeable, Jez Litten will likely remain as the 80-minute hooker with Bill Leyland an unused sub against Wigan and then not named to face Leeds Rhinos.<\/p>\n
