The San Jose Sharks will have two key third-line forwards in their lineup against the Dallas Stars on Thursday.

Ty Dellandrea and Adam Gaudette will play for the Sharks despite both forwards dealing with injuries. Dellandrea missed practice on Wednesday due to an upper-body injury that he suffered during Tuesday’s 6-3 win over the Calgary Flames. Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky confirmed Dellandrea would play after the center skated at the optional morning skate.

Gaudette suffered a lower-body injury against the Pittsburgh Penguins last Saturday and was forced to miss Tuesday’s game.

“I feel good. Ready to go,” Gaudette told SHD.

To make room for Gaudette in the San Jose Sharks lineup, Jeff Skinner will be a healthy scratch. This isn’t the first time Skinner has been a healthy scratch for the Sharks this season. The forward has struggled to generate offense this season. In 22 games this season, Skinner has just four goals, with his last one coming on Nov. 2.

Warsofsky didn’t reveal much as to the reasoning behind scratching Skinner, other than saying, “Because that is what we decided.” The San Jose Sharks head coach did explain what his message is to the veteran winger for when he eventually returns to the lineup.

“Just some details in his game without the puck,” Warsofsky said. “We’re going to give him some freedom to make plays. That’s what he’s done his whole career to create offense. But there needs to be more detail without the puck in his game. That’s really what it comes down to.”

Skinner has averaged a career-low 12:42 time on ice per game this season. While some of his underlying numbers are positive, according to NaturalStatTrick, the forward hasn’t been able to impact the game the way the Sharks want. Against a high-powered Dallas Stars team, Warsofsky wants details in the d-zone to be top-notch.

“They’ve got a great depth. They have secondary scoring. You go up and down the lineup, they get dangerous threats all over and on the back end. We have to protect the inside of the ice, and we have to get to the inside of the ice,” Warsofsky said.

“The second part of that is we’ve got to check. We’ve got to check and make their skill really pay a price to come to our net.”
