BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The City of Bakersfield has announced that its administrative offices will be closed from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, 2026, in observance of the holidays. Offices will reopen on Jan. 2, 2025, at 8 a.m. Essential services, such as police and fire, will continue to operate as usual.

Trash and recycling collection services will experience delays during the holiday weeks. There will be no service on December 25 and January 1, with normal Thursday services rescheduled for Friday, December 26, and January 2. Friday services will be delayed to Saturday, December 27, and January 3. Commercial collection will proceed as usual on Saturdays.

Additionally, Bakersfield’s free Christmas tree recycling program will be available from Dec. 26, 2025, to Jan. 9, 2026. Residents can drop off real Christmas trees at two locations: the Kern County Fairgrounds south parking lot, open daily from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Mt. Vernon Organics Recycling & Composting Facility, open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The facility is closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Residents are reminded to remove all lights, ornaments, tinsel, and garland from trees. Only wood tree stands are accepted, and trees can also be cut to fit into green waste bins for regular pickup, provided the lid closes completely.
