A California doctor is accused of filling her pockets instead of faces — allegedly bilking taxpayers out of $45 million in sham Medicare claims for bogus Botox injections.
Violetta Mailyan, 45, who owned and operated Healthy Way Medical Center in Glendale, Calif., was indicted by a federal grand jury this week for allegedly submitting millions of dollars in fraudulent claims to Medicare for the fake procedures, the Department of Justice announced.
The Botox injections were not medically necessary and were never provided, with Mailyan submitting claims for procedures on dates when she was traveling internationally or when the apparent client was traveling internationally, according to the indictment.
Mailyan even allegedly submitted a claim for administering the wrinkle reducer to a person in federal prison.
