Long Beach homicide detectives are investigating what authorities believe was a murder-suicide that left two people dead late Friday night in a residential area of the city.
Officers were first called to the 1500 block of Summit Street at about 10:51 p.m. on Dec. 19 after reports of gunfire, police said. When officers arrived, they found an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her upper body. Officers provided medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
Minutes later, at approximately 10:58 p.m., officers received information about a second shooting nearby in the 1600 block of West 19th Street, the Long Beach Police Department reported. There, officers located an adult man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. He was transported to a hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel, where he later died from his injuries.
Homicide detectives responded to both scenes and began an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the man and woman were in a dating relationship and were involved in a domestic violence incident, police said. Investigators believe the encounter escalated when the man shot the woman on Summit Street and then fled the area.
According to the Long Beach Police Department, the man later sustained what detectives believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound on West 19th Street. Authorities said they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects at this time, though the investigation remains ongoing.
The woman was identified as Daisy Uribe, a 23-year-old Long Beach resident. The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
