FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno State women’s basketball team exploded with offense in the 4th quarter, helping the Bulldogs pull away from the Wyoming Cowgirls on Saturday, 53-36.

This was the 1st Mountain West conference win for Fresno State (7-6, 1-1 MW) under head coach Ryan McCarthy, who explained postgame why he wore a Christmas sweater on the bench.

“All of us coaches lost a bet to Jaisa Gamble, that if she hit a three on some play, and it had to be a swish, then we would show up wearing a Christmas sweater,” McCarthy said. “I have never worn a Christmas sweater for a game in my life. But I pay my debts, so at least you know that.”

Meanwhile, the Fresno State men’s basketball team lost their 2nd half lead over UNLV, dropping the Mountain West opener on the road, 84-72.

The Bulldogs committed 5 of their 12 turnovers in the final 7 minutes of action. The Runnin’ Rebels outscored them 25-10 during that stretch, thanks to the turnovers and a 19-for-22 night at the free throw line (10/13 for Fresno).

The Fresno State men (6-6, 0-1 MW) will look to snap a four-game losing streak on Dec. 30, when they host Utah State at the Save Mart Center.
