Officers responded around 6:23 a.m. Friday to Haynes Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway regarding a crash involving a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Responding officers administered life-saving aid until Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived, but despite continued efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
His name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
A preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian was crossing Pacific Coast Highway when he was struck by an eastbound 2023 Ford F-150 driven by a 40-year-old Wilmington man, who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
Detectives said it remains unclear whether speed, distraction or impairment played a role in the collision.
