FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — The year 2025 for Fresno State Athletics saw the university make it through a men’s basketball gambling investigation unscathed, as well as multiple champions on campus.
Triston “Murf” Gray lit Pete Beiden Field on fire with his 18 home runs and Mountain West Player of the Year honors.
He helped the baseball team win back-to-back conference championships and return to the NCAA Regionals.
Meanwhile, the Fresno State softball team came a win away from also winning the conference. Now there’s a new head coach (Charlotte Morgan) and a new-look roster.
In the early summer, Cierra Jackson broke the NCAA championship meet record in the discus throw, becoming the school’s first National champion for outdoor track & field.

By the fall, first-year football head coach Matt Entz experienced ups and downs during an eventful season.
Multiple quarterback changes, a dominant defense, and a win over eventual MW champion Boise State – those three things are likely what most fans will remember the 2025 season by.
An 8-win campaign sent the Bulldogs to a 5th straight bowl game, which they play on Saturday.
Ryan McCarthy took over the women’s basketball program after winning 82% of his games over 13 years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage.

And of course, this is the last calendar year that Fresno State is a member of the Mountain West. The Bulldogs move to the PAC-12 conference halfway through 2026.
