BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A Muroc Joint Unified School District employee and his wife were arrested on alleged child abuse charges to three children under 14.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on Oct. 14, 2025, 38-year-old Matthew James and his wife, 35-year-old Brittany James were arrested by Mojave/Boron substation deputies after they responded to a report of possible child abuse in the North Edwards area. Deputies identified three victims of suspected child abuse under 14 years old in the investigation.
KCSO said Matthew is a Muroc Joint Unified School District employee.
The juveniles were taken into CPS protective custody.
Matthew and Brittany James face several charges, including felony child endangerment, assault on a child under 8 likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in a child’s death, assault with force likely to produce bodily injury, torture, false imprisonment, and conspiracy.
