The driver of the vehicle sustained “significant” facial injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

A third-party video provided to Eyewitness News showed a vehicle with major front-end damage and debris scattered on the road following the crash.

A preliminary investigation by Bakersfield police suggests that Cruz may have entered the crosswalk without ensuring the road was clear of oncoming traffic.
