We’ll soon be whimsically wading into the land o’ Twixmas, the charmingly nicknamed stretch that merrily meanders from the day after Christmas through New Year’s Eve, or thereabouts.

Twixmas, by the by, is very “or thereabouts” in spirit: It’s a loosely observed occasion where time doesn’t feel exactly linear and the dimensions are soft.

Or, if you’re at the Academy Museum, the dimensions may take a turn for the 3D, as in three-dimensional movies filled with big effects, wowza moments, and a few outsized startles along the way.

From Dec. 26 through 31, the museum will celebrate 3D-cember by screening an eye-popping assortment of 3D films from different decades. Those jump-out-at-you gems include “Jaws 3-D,” “The Martian,” and “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” with other classics and rare finds on the line-up.

“And in a nod to the original 3D movie boom, we’re offering a rare screening of ‘Gog,’ the 1954 cult classic featuring a memorable fight between Herbert Marshall and a deadly robot,” is an intriguing note on the museum’s web site.

Kids may be interested in watching “Coraline” and “The Incredibles 2” in 3D, possibly the first time they’ve enjoyed either film in 3D. Glasses for children and grown-ups will be available, vows the Academy Museum team.

A ticket to a screening is $5; find out more about attending this dimensionally delightful series here.

Oh yes: And if you’re swimming over to the Miracle Mile museum for the “Jaws 3-D” screening, keep in mind there’s a major “Jaws” exhibit on view in the museum, with artifacts, photos, and all sorts of gnash-y and notable props on view.
