FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Christmas cheer is in full swing this morning at Poverello House, where volunteers and Santa Claus are handing out thousands of toys to children from local families impacted by homelessness and poverty.

The annual Christmas Eve toy distribution begins at 6:00 AM and is open to children aged 0 to 12, who must be accompanied by a guardian.

Thanks to the community’s unwavering support and the generosity of partners such as Les Schwab Tire Center, KMPH Fox 26, Edison High School, Lyons Magnus, local businesses, and compassionate individuals, over 5,000 toys have been collected.

The event is being held rain or shine, with backup plans in place in case of heavy weather.

The lines are long already, even with the rain and heavy winds.

Papa Mike’s Café is also serving Christmas Eve meals today, with breakfast at 7:30 a.m., lunch at noon, and dinner at 2:30 p.m., including a special tamale option.
