SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. (FOX26) — The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released a video on how to rebury Pismo clams.
Reburying clams is how we can help them stay alive.
Here are the steps to consider when reburying clams.
Dig a hole in wet sand. Pismo clams breathe water and need to be where the tide covers them. Place the clam with the “button” up and the hinge pointing towards the ocean.Cover the hole with at least 2 to 6 inches of wet sand.
The CDFW wants to remind the public of regulations when it comes to collecting clams.
