PG&E reported several large power outages across the Bay Area on Wednesday as a wet and windy storm moved through Northern California.
The utility company said a fire at its Saratoga substation broke out at about 8:25 a.m., impacting about 21,000 customers. As of 11:45 a.m., PG&E’s website said 365 customers were without power in the city, while about 5,600 customers in Santa Clara County were without power.Â
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.
At 6 a.m., the largest power outage was in the North Bay, where PG&E reported 22,589 customers without power.
Just under 7,000 customers were without power in the Peninsula, while just over 1,200 customers in the East Bay were also affected.
PG&E said about 125,000 of its customers were without power at about 4:30 a.m. Crews had restored power to nearly 10,000 customers by 9 a.m.
Only 101 customers in San Francisco were without power on Christmas Eve morning. This past weekend, San Francisco saw a massive power outage that left 130,000 PG&E customers without electricity, with some people not getting their power back until Tuesday. PG&E said this was a result of a fire at the Mission substation.Â
A high wind warning and wind advisory were in effect for most of the Bay Area through Wednesday morning.Â
