FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Despite steady rain and whipping winds, last-minute shoppers packed River Park on Christmas Eve to finish holiday purchases before the big day.

“Last-minute shopping, dealing with the weather, but gotta do it,” said one shopper with an umbrella and bags in hand

Many welcomed the lighter crowds despite the dreary conditions. “I’m always a last-minute shopper, unfortunately, but there’s not a lot of people here, so it’s great,” said a woman.

Others weren’t as enthusiastic about in-person shopping.

“I hate shopping at stores. I’m an online shopper. This is not my favorite at all,” said a young girl.

The National Weather Service forecasted up to two inches of rain in Fresno on Wednesday, adding to the challenge for holiday procrastinators.

“Pretty chaotic. I don’t have a hood on, so yeah,” said one man as he hurried through the downpour.

Still, many shoppers said they were determined to finish their lists.

“We got a majority of it done. Now it’s just finishing up, final touches,” said one man.

Another added, “Me and my brother do it late, so got it all done today.”

Groups dashed between stores, scooping up deals and sharing holiday cheer.

“We’re getting all the deals. Come to River Park,” said two young women before wishing, “Merry Christmas!”
