Police said Caravallo lost control of his vehicle because of the wet roadway and struck a large metal power pole. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, he was declared dead at
the scene. Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision, according to CHP. It is unclear how fast he was driving.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of Caravallo.
“Deputy Caravallo was a dedicated employee who proudly served our agency for 19 years,” SCSO said on social media. “Our hearts are with Deputy Caravallo’s family, and we ask the public to keep Deputy Caravallo’s loved ones and our Sheriff’s Office family in their thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace, Deputy Caravallo. You will not be forgotten.”
The crash remains under investigation by CHP.
