OFFICE IS THE INVESTIGATING AGENCY. NONPROFIT VOICE OF THE YOUTH HELD ITS SECOND CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY TODAY, SERVING HUNDREDS OF KIDS IN NEED. AS OUR PHOTOJOURNALIST MIKE CARROLL REPORTS, IT’S ALL THANKS TO LAST-MINUTE DONATIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY. WE GOT THESE SHOES WE’RE GOING TO BRING IN HERE. WE’VE BEEN NONSTOP SINCE 730 EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST SIX YEARS. BERRY ACCIUS AND THE VOICE OF THE YOUTH ORGANIZATION HAS HELD A CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY. I THINK IT SHOES AND CLOTHES AND TOYS. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. BUT THIS CHRISTMAS EVE GIVEAWAY IS ACTUALLY THEIR SECOND GIVEAWAY. WE ACTUALLY SERVED 600 PLUS KIDS ON SUNDAY. THEN THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL, SENATOR ANGELIQUE ASHBY OFFICE, AND THE SOUTH SACRAMENTO FAMILY CENTER CAME THROUGH WITH MORE GIFTS THIS LAST MINUTE. SOME PEOPLE GOT AN EMAIL, AND THAT WAS THE BIGGEST BLESSING THAT THEY COULD HAVE ASKED FOR ON CHRISTMAS EVE, BECAUSE SOME OF OUR FAMILIES HAD NO IDEA WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO GET GIFTS AT. SO MY SIX MONTH OLD LOVES DORA. SO WE GOT THIS FOR HER. AND PROBABLY WITH THIS IS ANOTHER 400 PLUS. KIDS ARE SERVED. FOR MANY OF THESE FAMILIES, THIS SECOND GIVEAWAY MEANT THAT THEY WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE A CHRISTMAS. AFTER ALL. FROM A SCALE TO 1 TO 10, IT’S DEFINITELY A THOUSAND. I WAS WRONGFULLY TERMINATED IN THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, AND I JUST HAD MY BABY SIX MONTHS AGO. AND SO TIMES ARE REALLY, REALLY TOUGH THIS YEAR. WHEN YOU GO WALK INTO A STORE AND AN ITEM THAT USED TO COST 15.99 IS NOW 25.99, WITH THE BILLS RENT, SCHOOL FOOD, EVERYTHING GOING UP LIKE IT’S BEING ABLE TO GET THINGS FOR MY KIDS WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT IT BEING AN EXTRA EXPENSE AND STRESSOR. AS A PARENT, YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO FULFILL YOUR KIDS DREAMS, RIGHT? YOU WANT TO BE ABLE TO LOOK THROUGH THAT LIST AND BE ABLE TO GET THEM SOMETHING. AND I FEEL LIKE THIS IS AN ESSENTIAL BECAUSE THE KIDS LOVE CHRISTMAS IN SACRAMENTO. AT THE SECOND VOICE OF THE YOUTH CHRISTMAS GIVEAWAY. I’M MIKE CARRO
