Southern California is still in the midst of a powerful atmospheric river that’s been dumping heavy rain across the region since Christmas Eve — and even more rain is in the forecast.

“Looks like we’re not done with the rain yet,” KTLA weather anchor Gene Kang said Thursday evening, pointing to Max Doppler radar showing bands of yellow and orange sweeping across Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley Thursday evening. “Oxnard is getting anywhere from light to moderate to intense rain right now.”

The National Weather Service said showers would continue Thursday night, with the heaviest downpours hitting overnight while most folks are sleeping. Flash flooding, debris flows and runoff remain a concern in burn scar areas and along steep terrain.

The good news? Relief is on the way.

“Drier conditions and warmer conditions by Saturday,” Kang said. High pressure will build in for the weekend, bringing sunshine and temperatures in the mid-60s for Los Angeles.

Until then, expect more rain through Friday morning, with totals ranging from 1 to 3 inches in coastal and valley areas and higher amounts in the mountains, according to the NWS.
