What to watch for during the Bears vs. 49ers Sunday Night Football game on December 28

It’s been an up and down year for the 49ers, with an unpredictable crop of injuries to key players that saw star quarterback Brock Purdy sit out much of the season while backup Mac Jones led the team. Still, they’ve found ways to win in one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. The NFC West has been so solid this season that three of its four teams have already clinched playoff berths, including the 49ers. While they already know they’re in the postseason, San Francisco will be looking to push their homefield advantage to help them win out the rest of the season, giving them the best possible playoff position in January.

On the other sideline, you’ve got a Bears squad that’s riding high and, if they can avoid mistakes, is poised to win the NFC North. Quarterback Caleb Williams leads one of the league’s most productive offenses, while on the other side of the ball the Bears defense leads the NFL in takeaways. They’re a very good team, and they’re playing a Niners squad with a slightly shorter week, since San Francisco also has the Monday night game right before Christmas. They’ve got a big homefield advantage to overcome, but the Bears will be doing their best to keep up one of the most exciting runs any team has had this season.
