Police were called at 9:36 p.m. Thursday to the Riverstone Apartments on the 25000 block of Shiawassee Road on the report of a shooting.

Detectives believe a domestic assault earlier in the day, which was not reported to police, led to the shootings.

Witnesses told police a man assaulted his girlfriend and left. The woman invited a friend to her apartment, who brought a male friend. When the boyfriend returned, he forced his way into the apartment and retrieved a firearm.

He and the other man exchanged gunfire inside the apartment and were wounded. The visiting woman took her male friend to a nearby hospital before police arrived. The other wounded man and his girlfriend were taken to nearby hospitals by Southfield Fire and Rescue.
