FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A man was found dead inside a car that was fully submerged in a canal in Fresno, police say.
Police say that a 21-year-old man was reported missing on Christmas Eve.
Family members used phone location data and searched the area of Herndon Avenue and Madsen Avenue.
California Highway Patrol officers discovered signs of a crash, prompting the Fresno Sheriff’s Office to deploy a dive team.
The team located a 2012 Dodge Journey submerged 12 feet deep.
A tow truck was able to get the car out of the water.
However, the man was found dead inside the car, and the airbags were deployed.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office is working to confirm the identity and notify the family.
The investigation is ongoing, and it is unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
