LA HABRA, Calif. (KABC) — Authorities released disturbing new details in a murder-suicide at a Korean barbecue restaurant in La Habra.

Investigators said 34-year-old Jonathan Wang shot and killed 45-year-old Jacqueline Medrano Tuesday night before turning the gun on himself.

The two had been in a previous romantic relationship.

Last month, a judge issued a protective order against Wang, prohibiting him from contacting or being within 100 feet of Medrano. It was in effect at the time of the shooting.

Long Beach police had arrested Wang on July 15 after responding to a domestic violence call, according to authorities. A criminal domestic violence case was filed by the Long Beach City Prosecutor’s Office against Wang, alleging he willfully caused injury to his girlfriend, Jacqueline Medrano.

According to the victim’s statement, Wang “punched Medrano one time in the mouth, grabbed her by the front of the neck, pushed her to the ground, then held her down by the back of her neck.”

Wang was due back in court in November for a pre-trial conference, said Long Beach City Prosecutor Douglas P. Haubert.

On Tuesday, officers responded to reports of shots fired at Gui Gui 9292 Korean BBQ on Imperial Highway around 6:45 p.m., according to the La Habra Police Department.

When they arrived, officers found a man and a woman with significant injuries. They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
