A person who was killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Boyle Heights was identified as a 60-year-old woman.

The collision occurred when a big rig crashed into multiple vehicles on the Golden State (5) Freeway just south of Fourth Street at about 5:10 a.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At least one vehicle caught fire and a “physical rescue” was requested, according to Jennifer Middleton of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A total of 15 people were assessed, with 10 patients taken to local hospitals, Middleton added.

Paramedics transported some of the injured — with moderate injuries — to Adventist Health White Memorial hospital, according to the CHP.

The fatal victim was identified as 60-year-old Miriam Marroquin, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. It was unclear if Marroquin was the person who required the physical rescue. Her city of residence was not provided.

The CHP reported that nine vehicles sustained major front-end damage. It was unclear if the big rig was loaded with cargo.

The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
