A fire broke out early Sunday at a commercial building in downtown Oakland for a second time this year, but crews were able to quickly knock it down before it spread to nearby properties, according to the fire department.

The Oakland Fire Department received a 911 call at 12:24 a.m. reporting the fire at 670 Ninth St., and had a crew on scene within three minutes, said fire department spokesperson Michael Hunt. When firefighters reached the scene, they found an active blaze burning on the roof of a single-story commercial building.

Within about 10 minutes, crews were able to contain the fire, stopping the flames from extending to neighboring buildings and parcels. The incident was placed under control at 12:39 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and no evacuations were ordered.

The building has a recent history of fire damage. In April, a fire left the interior of the structure a near total loss.

It appears that the building most recently was home to LSW Cut and Sew, a garment-making contractor. The building is owned by A&L Chan LLC, which is registered to Afonso and Lydia Chan of Oakland.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Hunt said.
