An adult male was found unresponsive in his jail cell at Fullerton City Jail early on December 29, 2025. The individual had been arrested for public intoxication the previous night and booked at approximately 11:05 pm.

A Fullerton Police Officer discovered the man, slumped against a light pole at the intersection of S. Euclid St. and W. Orangethorpe Ave., at around 10:48 pm on December 28. The inmate was cooperative during his arrest and transport to jail.

During a routine check at 12:05 am, the on-duty jailer reported the inmate appeared to be asleep but breathing. At approximately 1:05 am, the jailer found him unresponsive. Emergency intervention efforts were initiated by the jail staff and responding police officers until the Fullerton Fire Department arrived. The male was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

There were no reports of police or jail staff using force during the interaction. Both Fullerton Police officers and the jail facility are equipped with body-worn cameras and CCTV that captured the events.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has been notified and is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. The Orange County Coroner will release the identity of the deceased at a later date.

Relevant video footage and recordings will be made available within 45 days as part of a Critical Incident Community Briefing.
