BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man is dead Monday after being struck two different times on southbound Highway 99 near Taft Highway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers said a man was walking in the third lane of southbound Highway 99, south of Taft Highway just after 2:30 a.m. when an unknown vehicle struck him then fled the scene immediately after.

Shortly after, an additional car driving southbound on Highway 99 struck the man lying in the third lane.

The man died at the scene.

The driver of the second car, a Honda, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, according to CHP.

It is unknown if either drugs and or alcohol were factors in the crash.
