Macklin Celebrini had a goal and two assists as the San Jose Sharks beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-4 on Monday at the Honda Center.
Celebrini now owns an eight-game point streak (6G-11A-17P) after tonight’s game. The Sharks center did take a puck to the face and needed repairs. He would later return. Alexander Wennberg had two assists for the Sharks, who won their second straight game. Mario Ferraro, Igor Chernyshov, and William Eklund scored the other goals for Team Teal.
Yaroslav Askarov stood on his head, making 39 saves. Adam Gaudette also suffered an injury during the game and left after one shift in the third period. Zack Ostapchuk scored his first goal as a member of the San Jose Sharks.
Troy Terry had two goals and an assist for the Ducks. Cutter Gauthier and Pavol Mintyukov also scored, and Lukas Dostal started but only made five saves on nine shots before being pulled. Petr Mrazek made three saves in spot duty.
Ferraro’s goal was his 100th career point in the NHL.
The San Jose Sharks got a little lucky on Monday, as the Ducks carried play for the majority of the night. Winning Pacific Division games is critical for the Sharks if they want to make the playoffs.
Ferraro gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 10:43 of the first period. Alex Wennberg raced down the wing and turned a Ducks defender, then found Ferraro at the doorstep for a tap-in past Dostal.
Terry tied the game 1-1 at 15:02. After Askarov didn’t move a puck behind the net fast enough, the Ducks stole it, and Terry wrapped the puck into an open goal.
Celebrini gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead at 19:12. Celebrini drove the net and tapped in a one-timer by Dostal on his forehand off a Wenneberg pass.
Chernyshov pushed the Sharks’ lead to 3-1 at 6:30 of the second period. After Sam Dickinson created a turnover, Celebrini found Chernyshov alone in front, and he then waited, moved to the backhand, and beat Dostal up high.
Eklund extended the Sharks’ lead to 4-1 and chased Dostal from the net at 12:17. Celebrini got his third point of the night after he passed back the way he came from, and Eklund’s shot was a pure snipe.
Gauthier gets one back for the Ducks on a deflection off a Terry shot at 16:26.
Mintyukov cut it to a 4-3 lead for the Sharks as he scored a wrist shot at 3:07 of the third period.
Ostapchuk deflected a Vincent Iorio shot, making it 5-3 at 13:47 of the period.
Terry scores his second goal of the game off a great feed from Mason McTavish with 4:02 left in the third to make it 5-4.
