WASHINGTON (TNND) — Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., predicted over the weekend that the Democrats would win back the House in 2026.

Pelosi did an interview with ABC News journalist Jonathan Karl which aired on Sunday.

“So if the Democrats win the House back,” Karl said during the interview.

“No, no, when,” Pelosi interrupted, according to The Hill newspaper.

“When the Democrats win the House back.”

Pelosi said that when Democrats take back the House in 2026, her successor, Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., will be the House speaker.

“Hakeem Jeffries is ready, he’s eloquent, he’s respected by the members, he is a unifier,” she said.

In order to take back the majority in the House, Democrats have to flip three seats.

Pelosi is one of the many members of Congress not running for re-election in 2026.

“As we go forward, my message to the city I love is this: San Francisco, know your power,” Pelosi said in her departure announcement. “We have made history; we have made progress. We have always led the way, and now we must continue to do so by remaining full participants in our democracy, and fighting for the American ideals we hold dear.”
