Home Depot explains high-pitched speakers in Cypress Park

Cypress Park—Home Depot has denied that new anti-loitering loudspeakers at the Cypress Park location were related to a recent immigration raid. “The noise devices and barriers at this location are specifically designed to solve illegal overnight parking, encampments and related issues that were creating a safety hazard under the CalTrans facility,” the company said in a statement. The comment comes in the wake of news reports about the high-pitched tone from six square speaker boxes in the parking lot area under the 5 Freeway overpass.

The Eastsider 2025 Year-End Fundraiser: Help Us Keep Telling Your Stories

Fifteen years ago, The Eastsider began as a one-man blog — just me, a notebook, and a phone. I covered community meetings, missing taco trucks, and the occasional coyote sighting.

Today, The Eastsider is powered by a small team of reporters and editors who bring you neighborhood-specific news every day — stories you simply won’t find anywhere else.

Now I’m asking for your support so we can continue providing trustworthy, independent local news in 2026. Your support keeps The Eastsider free for all.
