BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — Several train carts derailed on Monday evening near Virginia Avenue and Monticello Avenue, causing an indefinite closure, according to CHP’s website. Kern County Public Works said Virginia Avenue is closed from Washington Street to Monticello Avenue.

Traffic is diverted on east and westbound Virginia Avenue and Monticello Avenue. The derailment happened at around 7 p.m.

The cause of the derailment is unknown at this time.

CHP’s website reports that the train master will not be able to address the issue until tomorrow. Kern County Public Works has closed the area as of 7:25 p.m.
