Ring in 2026 in Los Angeles without the stress of parking, traffic, or rideshare surge pricing. In true holiday spirit, the L.A. Metro is once again offering free rides across the entire system this New Year’s Eve.
This annual L.A. Metro tradition encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly and sustainably. Fewer cars on the road means less congestion, safer streets, and an eco-friendlier start to the new year.
It’s easier – and greener – than ever before for Angelenos to hop between countdown parties, fireworks, and midnight celebrations safely.
🚇When are Metro rides free?
You can ride for free starting at 4 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31 all the way through 3 a.m. on January 1, 2026. No tapping and no fare deduction. Just board and go.
Fare gates at all rail stations will be unlatched Buses won’t collect fares TAP cards won’t be charged
Just show up, hop on, and enjoy your night out!
🚇Extended & Overnight Service
Metro is rolling out extra service for the holiday, so no party ends too late for transit:
24-hour rail service on New Year’s Eve through New Year’s Day for:
Meanwhile, the C and K Lines will run until 2 a.m. It’s perfect if you’re heading to or from Inglewood, LAX-adjacent areas, Carson, or South LA. And Overnight OWL buses will run as usual, so even the late-night crowd is covered.
🚇And what about New Year’s Day?
On January 1, Metro will shift to a Sunday/holiday schedule, so expect lighter service.

Around 14,000 to 15,000 items lost on the L.A. Metro are recovered every year and are stored at a warehouse near the A Line Heritage Square Station. You can check for your items at the Lost and Found warehouse on Monday through Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM.
