FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Several Fresno city crews spent the last day of 2025 preparing roads and clearing drains as another storm approaches the Central Valley.

“It is the holidays, and we are on call, and they are putting in the extra effort to come in any time of day or night, and it can be on Christmas or New Year’s,” said Fresno Public Works Manager Bret Conner.

The work follows a storm that hit during Christmas week. Conner said falling leaves added to the challenge this year.

“The leaves were kind of the difference this year, they came down later than they usually do,” he said.

Crews responded to widespread flooding during the holiday.

“We had approximately 125 flooding calls on Christmas Eve and Christmas. We had crews come in on Friday, after Christmas to help pump down areas that got a lot of flooding and we were back on Monday hitting it again,” Conner said.

Another storm is expected Thursday and could last through the weekend. Conner said preparation is key because wet roads can lead to crashes that sometimes damage power lines and cause outages.

PG&E spokesperson Jeff Smith says crews are ready to respond and urged residents to prepare.

“Making sure you have battery-operated radios, charge their cellphones. It’s always a good idea to do that whenever there is weather and we encourage customers, but we don’t anticipate a significant impact from this incoming storm,” Smith said.

Residents can report flooded roads or downed trees by calling 311 or using the Fres-Go mobile app.
