A man suspected of trafficking narcotics was shot and killed by Fontana police when he rammed multiple vehicles during an attempted arrest, authorities said Wednesday.

The shooting happened in the parking lot in the 17100 block of Foothill Boulevard around 1:35 p.m., said the Fontana Police Department.

According to the department, officers tried to detain the suspect wanted in connection with the sale and trafficking of a large quantity of narcotics, mainly fentanyl. During the arrest, the suspect used his vehicle to ram into multiple police vehicles, as well as a nearby civilian’s car. This led to an officer-involved shooting.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police did not release the name of the man.

No officers were injured in this incident.

As standard procedure, the Fontana Police Department will conduct an internal administrative review.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is the lead agency investigating the shooting.
